Club Tournament Not Happening
- Due to low registrations and very short notice, plans for a year-end Club Tournament have been abandoned.
- The Club Tournament Director position remains open.
- This matter is now an official agenda item for our Annual General Meeting.
- If you're interested in volunteering to fill this open Executive Board position, please submit your name before the AGM via email ([email protected]).
Hope Fading for Club Tournament this Year
- To the many members who have been looking forward to our year-end Club tournament: The event is unlikely to happen this year. The reason is simple.
- No one has come forward to take on the Tournament Director position, which has been vacant since Long NGUYEN stepped down over two years ago.
- As a member of the Executive Board, the Tournament Director's responsibilities include:
- attending Executive Board meetings
- consulting with the Executive Board to reach a final decision regarding tournament scheduling, format, competition categories, registration opening & closing dates, draw size minimums, and budget (prizes, refreshments)
- preparing the tournament registration form (Google Forms)
- coordinating with Vice Pres of Communications to email members announcing the tournament schedule, registration deadline, competition categories, and entry fees
- coordinating with Vice Pres of Communications to have tournament registration form posted on the Club website
- preparing the tournament draws (in consultation with the Head Pro to ensure fairness) and coordinating with Vice Pres of Communications to have the draws emailed to participants & posted on the club website on the eve of the tournament
- preparing refreshments for tournament day(s)
- supervising the tournament & recording scores
- preparing & awarding of tournament winner prizes
Electricity to be Shut Off Tues Sept 17th
- Work begins Tuesday, Sept 17th on the installation of LED lights, so electrical power will be cut off.
- This means no power in the Clubhouse, and no night play (no court lights).
- Members' court reservations are subject to cancellation WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE and as work progresses, the City work crew may ask members to stop play and change courts.
- Your cooperation and understanding will be greatly appreciated by the City electricians as they go about their business.
- The power cut is expected to last only one week, but the entire project will require about two or more weeks.
Mon HL
- Last Monday's (Aug 26) House League Clinic was the final one of the season.
- Just 2 Mon HL sessions remain: Sept 9th & Sept 16th.
Court Lights Update
- Our court lights are back to 100% health after the completion of repair work on Wed. Aug 14th.
- The mercury vapor lights have served us well for 50-plus years, but they are ancient, so YWTC's Executive Board has voted in favor of an upgrade: LEDs will be much stronger (twice the output of the older lamps), longer lasting, and will emit a whiter light (truer colors) without that annoying buzz we've had to put up with all these years.
- The upgrade is being done entirely at Club expense (YWTC is purchasing the lights), with the City undertaking the installation of new wiring, and updating all other supporting hardware from the ground up.
- 4~5 weeks are needed for the new lights to be delivered, and installed.
Trouble with Gametime?
- If you're experiencing difficulties, try
2. Deleting your browser cache (cached files from old GameTime sessions could cause problems).
3. Try a different (new) browser (eg Edge, Safari, Chrome, Opera or Brave).
4. Try a different device.
- If registration/login/booking problems persist, send a screen capture to [email protected]
- Be sure to include details on your browser version, OS and the type of device you are using.
- Remember that members cannot book Court #4, our teaching Court. It is reserved for our Head Pro.
Court Booking Maximum
- Members may book a maximum of 1 hour of singles per day, or 2 hours of doubles per day, to a maximum of 3 hours of singles per week, and/or 4 hours of doubles per week.
- Members found to be in violation of the above rule may face the suspension of court booking privileges for 14 days on the first occurrence.
High Schoolers! Do Your Community Service at YWTC
- YWTC welcomes high schoolers looking to complete their 40h of community service.
- If you know of a high schooler looking to do volunteer work, suggest they email us at: [email protected]
- Students can complete their community hours at YWTC all at once, or in increments.
- All Ontario high school students, to graduate, must complete at least 40 hours of community service.
YWTC at Full Capacity (well, sort of)
- Effective May 14th, YWTC has stopped accepting applications for Adult, Family and Senior Memberships.
- If you choose to apply now for an Adult, Family or Senior Membership, you will be put on the 2025 waiting list.
- We are still accepting Student and Junior Memberships for the 2024 season (limited number available).
Club Rule Reminder
- Your cooperation and understanding of Club Rule #1 is appreciated.
- Club programs & events shall take priority over member court bookings.
- Members may have their bookings canceled or may be asked to change courts due to Club programs and/or events.
Opening BBQ Success
- A tip of the hat to all who attended and helped out at our season opening BBQ.
- Our biggest thanks go to Master Chefs Tommy LE and Paul VO for serving up some supremely tasty BBQ and to Maurice POWER, and Martha APPIAH for generously lending a hand. Countless invisible elves pitched in as well, but as grateful as we are, they shall forever remain anonymous.
- Ben & Monika ARMSTRONG, proprietors of Game, Set & Match, our neighborhood tennis shop, deserve special note of thanks for bringing a fine assortment of the latest demo racquets for members to try out.
Newbie Clinic Signup
- A limited number of spots are still available for the July and August sessions. May and June are completely full.
- Clinics are led by experienced, TPA-accredited instructors.
- As the Clinic size is limited; early registration is recommended to secure your spot.
- If the Clinic is full, it means we have reached the maximum per court (5). Add your name to the waitlist, and if we reach the minimum of four per court, a second court will be added (with a second instructor assisting).
- The Clinic is designed to help newbies reach 2.5 NTRP, the minimum needed to join Mon House League.
- NTRP levels explained:
- 1.0: Just starting to play tennis.
- 1.5: Working primarily on ball control, getting the ball into play, placing serve inside the box.
- 2.0: Can rally five consecutive, slow~medium pace balls at 3/4-length of the court
Needs more on-court experience, emphasizing consistency.
• 2.5 Is ready to play league matches and low-level tournaments.
