CONGRATS to our ICTA MIXED MAJORS TEAM

28/7/2023

After an absence of some decades, YWTC returned to the Majors Division of the Intercounty Mixed League with emphatic success finishing their 2023 season in second place with 37 points, just one point behind the leader Thornhill Park.

The top four finishers now advance to the playoff round that starts Aug 1st when YWTC hosts Unionville.

Christopher MANCEBO earns a special round of applause for completing the season undefeated:  His 6 wins
stand as the best individual record on the team.  Kelly DOWUONA and Madison LEE were runners up earning an impressive 6 wins each in seven starts.  Well done girls!

Thanks to Leshia GADACZ (Captain), and Jonathan SORIANO (Co-Captain) for recruiting the talent and steering the team to a successful season, and main roster members Frederick BLASE, Nikki CARNOVALE, Emmanuel COTTLE, Daniel DALA, Alexander DAY, Kelly DOWUONA, Mark IULIANO, Tamara JANEV, Ariyo JAVADI, Braeden MACLEAN, Ahura REZAEE, Andrew REZAEV, Maxim TOKAREV, Steve VUONG, and Tony ZHAO for their contributions to the team.  Also, thanks to the subs for answering the call  when the team was in desperate need of players: Quan HUYNH, Seung-Seon 'Shawn' BAEK, Karen DOWUONA, Sulley DOWUONA, Long NGUYEN, and Phat NGUYEN.

3-vs-3: Our members have spoken

1/7/2023

In reaction to repeated complaints over the past few years about the excessive noise and distraction caused by too many players  on the court, it was decided (reluctantly) that the issue could only be resolved by a member poll.

Polling was conducted over a three-week long period, giving ample time for members to voice their opinions.  Despite our best efforts to engage everyone in the voting process, 46 percent of our members,  for whatever reason, simply did not bother to respond.

However, a majority did participate: 54 percent, to be exact, giving us a valid result.  With this, we now have the mandate to make a new Club rule regarding the maximum number of people allowed on the court.

  • 43 percent (66 votes) voted against 3-vs-3.
  • 33 percent (44 votes) voted in favor in 3-vs-3.
  • 24 percent (36 votes) abstained (no opinion).
  • 146 Total Votes (54 % of adult membership)
  • Juniors & Students do not enjoy voting privileges
While the result will disappoint a small number of our members, we expect that this minority will respect the majority opinion and will abide by the new Club rule.

Good turnout for the Opening Day BBQ

7/5/2023

Despite the uncertainty over the weather, about 70 people turned out for our Opening Day BBQ:  Thank you all for making our Opening Day a grand success.

From 9 to 10, Coach Sulley ran the Live Ball Clinic and the Round Robin action started at 10 with a changeover every half hour.

Threatening clouds forced us to fire up the BBQ a bit earlier than planned.  Master Chef Paul VO and apprentice Janet HAN performed a minor miracle in the kitchen , satisfying the hungry masses with delicious burgers and hot dogs.  Thank you Paul and Janet!

I'm a 4.0, why should i have to attend the tryouts?

6/4/2023

We get this question all the time from players who feel that they automatically deserve a spot on the team they played for last year.  The truth of the matter is:  Things change, nothing ever stays the same.

It's a new season and maybe you've been taking lessons, practicing indoors all winter long, and upped your game.  Or, maybe not.  A new season brings an influx of new team members that will alter team chemistry for better or for worse.  The starting lineup will need adjustments.  When all team members show up to the tryout session to play with and against new team members, the Head Pro and Team Captains can then make a fair evaluation.

Let's not forget that the tryout is a opportunity to reconnect with last year's team members, meet and greet your new team members and have a couple of hours of fun.

Intercounty is a team sport so show your team spirit by attending the tryout.

HOUSE LEAGUE: To split, or not to split?

3/4/2023

House League is getting too big to handle:   The sign up count has already passed 80, it's only April and we're still counting!

Last year, House League maxed out at 65,  and  required a rotation system as we could only accommodate 32 players on any given Monday (16 for 7pm and 16 for the 830pm shift).  That meant half the players had to sit it out and could only play every second week.

We have a couple of options: Shorten the playing time to 60min adopting three shifts: 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Or, just create a second House League night.

WIth our courts reserved for Intercounty matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the only available options are Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.

We'll be polling our House League members in the coming weeks to see what's the most popular solution.

YWTC MIXED A TEAM or 2  C Teams?

30/3/2023

Our Club's original plan to field two Mixed C Teams is now under review as the ICTA Mixed League Director has indicated that YWTC has the option of entering an all-new  A Team. We will conduct a poll our Intercounty players this week to see what players want.  If an A Team is created, there will be only one C Team.

If members give the green light to an A Team, our Club will compete in every Mixed League category: Mixed Majors, Mixed A, B, C and +55.   Some teams have vacancies for Captains and Co-Captains so if you're interested in volunteering, please step forward.

APRIL 10TH:  Day 1 of the 2023 Season

27/3/2023

Our 2023 season officially gets underway April 10th when our City Permit takes effect.  The season will conclude Oct. 31st, giving us a 29-week-long season plus a day.

Before the fun and games begin, we'll hold a Spring Cleaning on Sunday April 16th at 1030am to raise the windscreens, tidy up the grounds and the Clubhouse, inside and out.  We hope to see a good turnout of volunteers.  Don't forget to bring your racquets along just in case the weather gods decide to smile down  on us.

A new security gate code goes into effect April 15th.  Members will have received the new code along with their shoe tags in the mail.  Members are reminded: Never share the code with non-members:  This is for your own personal safety and the security of our Clubhouse.

Lastly, kindly observe the shoe tag  rule:  Whenever you're on the court, show courtesy to other members by wearing your shoetag, or at the very least,  keep it visible (attached to your bag) for all other members to see easily.   If you don't follow this rule, do not take offense when  another member asks you for proof of membership.
